EO Spotlight: Juniper Essential Oil
The fresh, woody aroma of Juniper Berry essential oil evokes a day in the evergreen forest. Since ancient times, cultures around the world have used Juniper for its powerful clearing properties. It helps to purify, cleanse and detoxify the body, mind and spirit as well as any living space. It is also a great tool to support us during times of anxiety and stress.
Juniper was used historically in Europe to help prevent transmission of contagious diseases and the berries were burned as incense during the middle ages to protect against evil. In Tibet, households burn juniper each day at dawn to instill clarity and purify the air while providing a smoke offering that drifts up to please the mountain god and carry morning prayers to the heavens. Here in the Southwest, Native American cultures have long been using Juniper for both medicinal and ceremonial purposes. The berries and twigs are burned during purification rituals and Juniper tea is brewed to treat headaches, colds and stomach issues.
Medicinally, this essential oil is a powerful detoxifier. When applied topically (diluted), it increases circulation and assists in expelling uric acid and toxins from joints and muscles. This is one of the reasons Kate made it a key ingredient in our Letting Go Massage + Body Oil. You can also dilute our pure Juniper Essential Oil Single Note in your favorite carrier oil for a natural treatment to help ease muscle cramps, rheumatism and arthritis.
Juniper Essential Oil is wonderful when diffused during meditation (either as a Single Note or married with other warm wood notes in our Grounding Earth Diffuser Oil) to facilitate connection to the divine/spiritual realm and keep the mind clear from chatter. It encourages our spirits to soar while calming anxiety and stress, allowing us to stay grounded and push forward on our path. These qualities also enable Juniper to help us during transformational times as it is used in Blue Morpho Body Perfume Oil. In the Wood Nymph Body Perfume Oil, its clean aroma helps eliminate negative thought patterns and self-criticism, helping us to trust ourselves and radiate our own individual beauty.
Inhale the delightful, grounding aroma of Juniper and feel the purifying shift as your intentions and prayers are carried out to the universe, leaving you with a sense of calm and peace.By Matthew Campbell, Kate's Magik General Manger
