THE SULIS MINERVA STORY
BY THERAPEUTIC PERFUMER KATE BECKER
May 2023 Bastet Perfume Society Perfume of the Month
Sulis Minerva is the nourishing, life-giving patron goddess of the temple in Bath, UK. In April, my mom and I made a pilgrimage to Bath and the sacred thermal spring the Romans called Aquae Sulis which lies in the county of Somerset in Southeast England. Her name, Sulis Minerva, is a melding of Sulis, the Celtic goddess of the sacred springs that still feed the spa baths and Minerva, the Roman goddess often identified with the Greek Athena. Sulis is considered a protector and a healing divinity whose sacred waters were renowned to cure physical or spiritual suffering and other blessings.
Scent Profile: Sacred sandalwood, alluring jasmine, sweet coconut and cooling bay laurel are the highlights of this water-honoring perfume. Conjured to evoke the gentleness of the water element as well as the iridescent turquoise-green hue of the thermal waters at the Roman Baths. Envelop your senses and evoke this ancient sacred goddess for your own healing and protection..
